The mission of this international festival is to recognize the unique talent and craftsmanship involved in directing. This festival honors the directors for their multifaceted skills.

The recognition from this Festival adds to the long list of honors which have been received by Cheryl Halpern. She humbly admitted that she has always been a storyteller since she was a child. “It was fun to be able to tell stories and keep the attention of both my friends as well as my younger sister and her friends. I think these childhood experiences helped to shape me as the director that I am today. I am thrilled to have been chosen to receive the Director of the Year Award.”

When asked for her advice for young directors, she said, “When you decide to use film as the medium for your storytelling, you have to be self confident and trust yourself. You need to believe that what you are filming will enable you to achieve your directorial goals. And after the final edit, the film will be what you will be proud to share with others… wherever and whenever possible.”

Cheryl Halpern has been recognized for using film as a means to acknowledge those who have made social contributions to their societies. Her opinion is that social change requires communication and awareness. “Individuals who have succeeded in improving the quality of life in their respective cultures need to be seen and heard as role models. A compelling story shared with global audiences, educates and creates an opportunity for discussion and growth,” Regarding her directing style, she believes that each person in her documentaries should choose their own words to express themselves. It allows for their emotions and their thoughts to be authentically communicated.

From her childhood until today Mrs. Halpern has enjoyed a multifaceted journey as a storyteller. She has shared stories with audiences on radio, on television and on screen in theaters, educational institutions and museums. She looks forward to continuing to tell compelling stories and thereby educate, inspire, and enable others to achieve.
